DANVERS, MA — Drivers who travel on Route 114 in the area of Route 1 can expect delays and intermittent detours getting onto and off Route 1 for three weeks beginning on Monday.

The state Department of Transportation said it will implement daily lane closures along Route 114 between Leblanc Drive and Avalon Bay Drive, which could also include temporary ramp closures at the Route 1 and Route 114 interchange, as onramps and offramps between the two roads are resurfaced in all directions.

The work will take place Mondays through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

It comes at the same time as MassDOT is implementing a series of what it calls "quick-build safety changes" aimed at reducing the number of crashes on the stretch of Route 114 through Danvers into Peabody that some refer to as "Death Alley."

The work from Leblanc and Avalon Bay is expected to be finished on or about Nov. 11.

The work will consist of pavement resurfacing, including utility structure adjustments and pavement markings.

The work is being performed under a District Wide Resurfacing contract with Newport Construction as the prime contractor.

Drivers who are traveling through the area should reduce their speed and use caution.
