Atlantic Bird Found, Rescued By Dedham Family

An Atlantic seabird was found in a Dedham yard this week.

WCVB reported that the bird, a malnourished common murre, was rescued by the Dedham family.

The bird was kept in a cooler and fed shrimp before being taken to the Wildlife Clinic at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine.

A common murre is “an abundant, penguin-like bird of the cooler northern oceans,” according to All About Birds. The creature nests along rocky cliffs and spends its winter at sea, the guide notes.
