DEDHAM, MA - This past Wednesday night, September 7th, the Dedham Select Board presented Dedham resident Peter H. Reynolds with a Certificate of Recognition for his world-acclaimed picture book The Dot and the global celebration of creativity it inspired, now known around the world as International Dot Day.
The certificate reads, “Published nearly twenty years ago, the best-selling book The Dot is now in over 25 languages and has inspired tens of millions of people young and older to use their creativity, compassion and courage to move the world to a better place. This classic picture for all ages, along with the other books in Peter H. Reynolds' Creatrilogy series (The Dot, Ish, Sky Color) inspired the launch of International Dot Day by educator Terry Shay. Dot Day is now celebrated every year on September 15-ish. With over 22 million participants in more than 197 countries since 2014, International Dot Day has become a truly global event celebrating creativity, courage, & collaboration. We congratulate Peter H. Reynolds and join in celebrating International Dot Day.”
The certificate was signed by all five Select Board members, including Jim MacDonald, Dennis Teehan, Erin Boles Welsh, Kevin Coughlin and Dimitria Sullivan.

Reynolds shares, “I’m humbled at how The Dot has been embraced around the world, but even more honored to have my own hometown recognize the book and the celebration that has grown up around it. I’m proud to add to Dedham’s arts, culture and literary heritage in some small way.”

On September 15th at 1pm, Reynolds will be celebrating Dot Day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, as part of a global live stream event produced by Microsoft Flip, and translated simultaneously in eight languages as well as American Sign Language. Schools and libraries around the globe are invited to register and watch the event at www.aka.ms/dotday. The event will feature a sneak preview of the new musical Dot Dot Dot, which is in development by TheatreWorksUSA in NYC based on Reynolds “Creatrilogy” series - The Dot, Ish and Sky Color.
Following the event at The Met, Reynolds will head back to his bookshop The Blue Bunny at 577 High Street, in Dedham Square to oversee Dot Day festivities on Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 11:00 pm to 1:00 pm. The location celebration will feature in-store dot making projects, a photo booth, face painting and more - including a book signing by Reynolds.
