Avery Elementary School Students Raise Money to Help Children With Cancer

On January 30th, Avery students raised $132.15 to benefit the Foundation for Children with Cancer. Students paid $1 for the privilege of wearing a hat of their choice to school. This act was a sign of compassion and way to raise understanding and awareness for children who lose their hair during treatment. Student Council members organized the event, created posters and fliers to send home, and collected and counted the money.

Since it’s inception in 1995, Hats On Day has raised over $1,000,000 to financially assist the families of children with cancer. Avery students were proud to join the cause and help raise awareness for childhood cancer which is the leading cause of death (excluding accidents) for children under the age of 20.
