Dedham Civic Pride Reveals New Painted Flowerpots at Barnes Memorial

Painted by former Dedham resident Cindy Previtt, the two new pots feature a patriotic theme with eagles.

Dedham Civic Pride has add two new painted flowerpots to its Blooms collection. The painted pots sit at the front of the memorial for Private First Class Joseph A. Barnes III. Private Barnes was the first Dedham service man to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Private Barnes, age 22, sacrificed his life for others on November 12, 1967 while serving in Vietnam.

The pots featuring an American Bald Eagle on a blue background where painted by former Dedham resident Cindy Prevett. Cindy's works for Dedham Civic Pride include the flowerpots at the entrance to Veteran's Park in Oakdale Square; the ladybug flowerpots at the main library; and the utility box at the corner of Milton and Saw Mill Road in East Dedham. Cindy attended Framingham State University and graduated with a B.S. in Art/Art Education. Cindy has work on a number of projects include an outdoor fiberglass cow for the Boston Cow Parade, a rocking chair for Logan Airports "Art Rock" exhibit; pianos for Celebrity Series of Boston and for the Dedham School of Music (this sits in front of The Blue Bunny Bookstore in Dedham Square).

Currently Dedham Civic Pride has over 70 flowerpots spread throughout Dedham. The pots are on display from May to October each year. Businesses, organizations, churches and families have sponsored the pots. For more information on sponsoring a flower pot, please contact [email protected]
