Dedham Couple Charged In Drowning Say Harassment Has Followed

DEDHAM, MA — A Dedham couple charged in connection to a local teen's 2021 drowning death have faced harassment and intimidation in the wake of the incident, according to a report.

Leslie and James Coughlin, a retired state police captain, have been charged with furnishing alcohol to minors and reckless endangerment of a child. Alonzo Polk, 17, of Dedham, was pulled from a pool during a graduation party at their Netta Road home in June 2021.

According to Boston 25, people have appeared at the couple's home during early morning hours to play loud music and shout obscenities. One incident was recorded on video, the station reported.

Polk's death has been a main focus in Dedham. Shortly after the teen died — Polk was hospitalized for about a week after the initial drowning — hundreds of supporters marched through the Oakdale area to the Coughlin's home to demand justice.

The Coughlins are headed toward a trial in April at Dedham District Court.
