UPDATE: Winter Storm Warning Upgraded to Blizzard Warning; Dedham Expected to Get 12-18 Inches of Snow

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning that will be in effect from 6 a.m. Thursday through 8 p.m.

DEDHAM, MA — Residents can expect blizzard conditions to hit the area this afternoon.

The National Weather Service has upgraded their Winter Storm Warning to a Blizzard Warning that will be in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday. The NWS is warning of "heavy snow," 12-18 inches across much of Eastern Mass., including Dedham. Winds of 15-20 mph and gusts up to 45 mph are also expected.

Snow is expected to last through much of the day before ending Thursday evening, the NWS said. Snowfall could be heavy at times and visibility is likely to be poor.

Heavy snow and strong winds will result in blizzard conditions, according to the NWS. Snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour and thundersnow will be possible at times.

Travel is not recommended during the warning. Forecasters are expecting strong winds that create blowing and drifting snow and near-white out conditions at times.

A Blizzard Warning is issued when sustained winds or frequent gusts over 35 mph are expected with considerable falling and/or blowing snow.
