Dedham Junior Women's Club Spearheads Eyeglass Collection

The DJWC is asking everyone to check around the house and office and donate any unused glasses.

Do you have glasses to recycle?
Do you have glasses to recycle? (Mary Lou Wofford, Dedham Junior Women's Club)

The Dedham Junior Women's Club will be holding an eyeglass recycling collection from February through May 2022. Collection boxes are located at the Main Library and the Endicott Branch Library.

Did you know that it has been calculated that four million eyeglasses are thrown away each year? Those four million eyeglasses end up in landfills that are already overcrowded.

The World Health Organization estimates that 44 percent of people in developing countries need eyeglasses. If those four million eyeglasses were to be recycled to many of the non-profits who provide eyecare and glasses to needy people, so many people would be seeing the world more clearly and having the quality of their lives improved.

The DJWC is asking that everyone take a few moments and look around your homes and offices for eyeglasses no longer in use. Then stop by the library and deposit them into the recycling boxes.
