DEDHAM, MA — A Dedham native will be the man responsible for making sure that members of the US Figure Skating team are healthy and able to compete.

Dr. Peter Gerbino, formerly of Dedham and now of Monterey, California, has been selected as the team physician for the United States Figure Skating delegation at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. He will also assist athletes from other Winter Olympic sports, according to a release.

Gerbino beat out a field of 29 doctors for the position. To get selected, he had to be selected by the national team governing body, the athletes, the coaches and the representatives from the US Olympic Medical Team. A background check was required as well.
