Get Ready for the 2017 Dedham Four On The 4th Road Race

The annual Fourth of July race is in honor of Sally Naser, who is battling a rare bone cancer.

DEDHAM, MA — Before the grilling start and the fireworks hit the sky, Dedham will run in honor of a girl who has been battling a rare bone cancer for seven years.

The Dedham Fourth on the 4th road race is once again set for Independence Day morning at 9 a.m. at Fairbanks Field. The race is in honor of Sally Naser, a Dedham resident who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer in May 2010. According to race organizers, Naser needed chemotherapy and surgery. For the young girl, that meant, the removal of half her right femur, knee joint, the top of her tibia and other surrounding tissue, according to the race's website.

Over the years, Naser has had five surgeries, and several rounds of surgeries, including an experimental phase 1 immunotherapy treatment at Texas Children’s Hospital.
