"He had heard about National Ice Cream Day, which I believe was started during the Reagan administration," he explained. "So the department decided to fund up to $500 of ice cream cones for children, using monies from the school and community resource funds."

There will be two community service officers at the ice cream parlor to greet kids and their families, as well as Ruby, the department's K9 officer.
