Neponset Valley Humane Society Gets Crafty

Nonprofit to Host Two Fall Events to Benefit Area Cats and Kittens

The Neponset Valley Humane Society (NVHS) is hosting two crafting events this fall: a floral pumpkin workshop and a fair featuring 30 vendors. Proceeds from both activities will help cats with medical visits, support the group’s feline rescue program and defray the cost of fostering cats and kittens. The craft night will take place on September 19th and the fair will be held on October 5th.

“Events like this are very important to the organization,” said Cathy Tainter, the Society’s President. “They help keep us running and pay for unexpected expenses. For example, we recently took in a young, very pregnant cat who gave birth to six beautiful kittens. Unfortunately, soon after, the mama cat needed life-saving surgery. We just couldn't let her go, but something like that is a big drain on our funds.”

Tainter reports that the patient is doing great. “However, she can't nurse so we need to bottle feed all six of her babies. As you can imagine, this is a huge and costly undertaking. Our fall events will help NVHS replenish its coffers as well as continue to allow us to help other cats and kittens throughout the Neponset Valley.”

During the September 19th floral pumpkin workshop, participants will decorate a pre-shellacked mini pumpkin with flowers, mosses, acorns, ribbons and other ornamental objects. The result is a long-life decorative object ’dart perfect for a centerpiece or as fall home décor. The cost is $40/person ($35 if registered before August 29) and includes all supplies and professional instruction from Le Jardin (www.lejardinri.com). It runs from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

The October 5th craft fair features 30 vendors, including crafters, artisans, makers, and food purveyors who want to show off their wares to a pre-holiday shopping crowd. Featured items include pottery, jewelry, candles, art, photography, re-purposed crafts and more. The event is free, runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, and will feature a large raffle table and bake sale.
