Public Invited to Dedham Town Green "Show & Tell" Event, Sunday Nov 19

Big Screen Presentation at Dedham Community Theatre as Grant Match Challenge Deadline Looms for Funds to Enhance Proposed Dedham Town Green

DEDHAM, MA. - The public is being invited to a special, big-screen edition slideshow and friendraiser for the Dedham Town Green this Sunday, November 19th at 10am at the Dedham Community Theatre. This family/kid-friendly presentation by the Friends of the Dedham Town Green will help provide more information about this game-changing project. Attendees will enjoy complimentary Mocha Java coffee and hot cocoa from Blue Bunny Books while supplies last. The program is being hosted by Dedham Community Theatre, Blue Bunny Books, and the Reynolds Center for Teaching, Learning & Creativity/TLC Studios.

The presentation will include the big-screen premiere of a fundraising video produced by the Friends of the Town Green, which included notable community figures such as State Representative Paul McMurtry, Former Select Board Member & Town Green Working Group (TGWG) Chair Mike Butler, Planning Board Member & TGWG Vice-Chair Jessica Porter, and TGWB Member Tom Polito, as well as General Manager of Oscar’s Pub Michael Tallon, and Anna Kazis from Dedham House of Pizza.

To raise $500,000 in private donations to supplement town funding and state grants and ensure Dedham ends up with the best Town Green possible, the public is being encouraged to help meet the challenge deadline offered by Needham Bank. The bank has generously offered to match all donations up to $50,000 by the end of this month. To learn more about the match challenge, explore www.patronicity.com/project/dedham_town_green.

The demolition of the Dedham Police Station earlier this year at the intersection of High and Washington Streets presented the town with an opportunity to finally build a Town Green to enhance its historic downtown, Dedham Square. In 2022, Town Meeting voted to allocate $2.55m toward demolition of the old building and design and construction of a park in that space. The Town Green Working Group worked closely with the design team at Halvorson | Tighe & Bond - the firm that designed Post Office Square - to create a signature public space for people of all ages.
