Selectmen Suspends Victory Grille's Liquor License

The restaurant recently received a seven-day suspension.

DEDHAM, MA — Victory Grille will be unable to serve alcohol for seven days following two license violations.

The selectmen voted last week to suspend the restaurant's alcohol license from July 3 to 6 and Aug. 4 to 6 for two fights that occurred in January and April.

Board members said they were reluctant to issue the suspension, but felt it was necessary.

"This is a very difficult thing for us to do because we try to be pro-business in the Town of Dedham and we understand your long history of being here. At the same time, we have to take this very seriously. Alcohol is a very different animal and we're lucky no one got hurt," Selectman Dennis Guilfoyle said.

Kevin Hampe, an attorney for Victory Grille, said in June that the restaurant was going to install a new security camera system to replace the current one which had been malfunctioning, cut back last call to 11:30 p.m. with everyone out of the building by 12:30 a.m., add a bar manager, purchase two new license scanners, and have a managed outside the entrance Thursday through Saturday check the licenses of anyone who looks under 35 years old.

Dedham Police Sgt. John Clements said at the time that there was frustration when it came to getting information on the incidents, but he was encouraged by the improvements discussed. He also asked to have a manager outside the entrance on Sundays during NFL season.

Victory Grille is expected back in front of the board in the near future for allegedly failing an alcohol license compliance check.
