DEDHAM, MA — Although most lawns and gardens probably don't need it, outdoor watering restrictions in Dedham and Westwood have been loosened.

On Monday, the Dedham-Westwood Water District downgraded water restrictions from level two to level one. Now, Dedham residents can water outdoors on Mondays and Thursdays between 6 and 9 a.m. and 6 and 9 p.m. only; and Westwood residents between those same hours on Tuesdays and Fridays.

After a serious drought over the summer, rainfall has been relatively steady so far in September. The changeover to autumn has also reduced demand for outdoor watering, according to the DWWD.

In addition, customers have diligently complied with the current restriction stage, which has reduced the overall amount we have had to withdraw from our sources. This cooperation has enabled the District to reduce its overall water demand and downgrade the current restriction level," the district said in a bulletin Monday.

As of the last update on Sept. 20, eastern Norfolk County was still in "extreme drought," according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
