If there are school delays or cancellations due to the frigid temperatures and otherwise wintry weather, Patch will have them here.

Don't be fooled by the mild weather that started the week, things are turning for winter. Temperatures are expected to drop to record-low temperatures for this time of year and there is a chance for snow between bouts of rain. Such a sudden shift could also make way for, well, not a snow day, but a "winter" day.

Snow isn't the biggest concern. Temperatures are expected to drop overnight into Wednesday, and with rain forecasted throughout the day, the risk for slippery or icy roads could make it difficult to commute. Some school districts last winter cancelled classes due to similar conditions.

Officials are warning of patches of black ice and hazardous road conditions, particularly in northern Massachusetts near the New Hampshire border.
