Easton Power Outages Down To 4,500

Easton power outage update: about half of town remained without power; Easton schools were closed.

EASTON, MA — About half of Easton remained without power Sunday night after Friday's historic nor'easter. As of Sunday at 10 p.m., there were 4,587 still without power in Easton, according to National Grid. That figure represents 46 percent of town. Outages were expected to continue through at least Monday. At the height of the storm, more than 90 percent of Easton lost power.

Easton officials opened an emergency shelter at Olmsted Richardson School on Lothrop Street. Easton schools were closed Monday.

Statewide, more than 80,000 were still without power Sunday night.

Friday's storm whipped up wind gusts approaching 100 mph in parts of the state. At the height of the storm, more than 450,000 were without power statewide.

"Hundreds of line, wires down and damage assessment crews are focusing on emergencies and public safety," National Grid said in a statement. "The storm brought flooding, downed trees and wires ... We’re focusing on critical customers and emergency calls before we transition to full-blown restoration."
