ATLANTA, GA — With just 10 words and one simple tweet, the Atlanta Falcons have officially started the Bill Belichick hiring watch.

On Monday, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were putting an end to a disappointing Philadelphia Eagles season, the Atlanta Falcons had already turned their sites to righting the ship for the start of the 2024 season.

"We have interviewed Bill Belichick for our head coach opening," the Falcons posted on X.

This comes after Belichick and Patriots team owner Robert Kraft announced last week that they've "mutually agreed" to part ways after more than two decades together, which resulted in six Super Bowl victories and the greatest dynasty the league has seen.

Belichick remains widely regarded as one of the game's greatest coaches and defensive minds — if not the best. He sits in second place on the all-time wins list, is first in playoff wins and second in total games as a head coach.

Belichick is one of only three coaches to have won six Super Bowls and won the AP Coach of the Year award three times. A student of the game, Belichick's legacy is cemented in the history books as the coaching selection for the NFL 2000s and 2010s All-Decade Team, and a selection on the 100th Anniversary All-Time Team.

Still, the Patriots moved on from Belichick and have announced Jerod Mayo as its next head coach. An introductory press conference is scheduled for Wednesday.
