Rams Softball Opens Season 0-2

The Framingham State girls team lost to Clarkson University and New England College on Sunday in Florida.

Clermont, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team opened the 2016 season Sunday morning dropping a pair of games at the NTC Spring Games.

The Rams were defeated 12-6 by Clarkson University in their opener, before falling 6-5 to New England College.

The Rams received three hits and three RBI from junior Kylie Boyle in the opener against Clarkson. Boyle rapped out a pair of doubles as she went 3-for-4 at the plate. Junior Tiffanie Marsh also recorded a pair of hits and accounted for a pair of runs. Sophomore Megan Downing went 1-for-3 with a homeruns and two RBI.

Sophomore Jessica Pietersen took the loss for the Rams in the circle in her first start of the season. Pietersen went two innings allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits with a pair of walks.

Senior Natasha Arseneaua tossed two innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit, while freshman Kelsi Gunarathne went three innings allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits with three strikeouts.

The Rams (0-2) are back in action Monday with a pair of contests at the NTC games.

The Rams open the day at 9 a.m. against Trinity College and close the day at 1 p.m. against RPI.
