Internationally renowned baritone to perform at Gordon College

Grammy Award-winning baritone Kevin McMillan is set to kick off the 2018-2019 season of Gordon College's Alton C. Bynum Recital Series on Friday, October 26 with a rare complete performance of Franz Schubert's song cycle "Die schöne Müllerin."

McMillan has performed with many of the world's leading symphony orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He has recorded extensively.

Dr. Sarita Kwok, chair of Gordon's music department, said: "We are incredibly fortunate to present such
esteemed artists as Grammy-award winner Kevin McMillan on the Alton C. Bynum Recital. Mr. McMillan has performed with virtually all major North American orchestras, so it is a particular honor to have him as our
guest in Phillips Recital Hall." "Personally," she added, "I can’t wait to hear him perform Schubert’s famed song-cycle Die schöne Müllerin. This is a recital not to be missed!"

McMillan’s visit to Gordon is especially meaningful for Professor Jamie Hillman, who said he would not be working in music today were it not for his teacher of six years. "He saw the potential in me, and worked tirelessly to bring it out," Hillman said. "Studying with Kevin was a highlight of my musical journey. Seeing him on Gordon's campus -- performing and working with my students (after almost 15 years since studying with him myself)-- will also be a highlight of my musical journey."

McMillan holds a master's degree from the Juilliard School and is scheduled to be accompanied at Gordon by pianist Gabriel Dobner, a faculty colleague at James Madison University. McMillan is a native of Canada and maintains a residence in Ontario.
