Joseph Francis Trustey: Adored Husband and Father; Generous and Kind Friend

Services for Joseph Trustey will be held Tuesday and Wednesday.

Joseph Francis Trustey, 53, died Wednesday, July 29, in a plane crash that also claimed the life of his 18-year-old daughter, Anna.

Trustey was well known among his friends, colleagues and community for his generous and philanthropic spirit as well as his business accomplishments. He worked as the chief financial officer at Summit Partners and served on the boards of numerous organizations including Citi Performing Arts Center, Shore Country Day School, Brooks School, St. John’s Preparatory School, Essex County Community Foundation, Hannah & Friends and Father Flanagan’s Fund.

He was known as a practical joker who was quick to laugh and entertain his friends.

“He had a sterling intellect, a quick wit, a genuine warmth and a complete lack of pretense - all characteristics that allowed Joe to establish fast and lifelong friendships” his full obituary on the Campbell Funeral Home website reads. “He had a unique ability to engage with people. From the man on the street to the seasoned CEO, he connected with everyone on a personal level.”

Trustey also volunteered his time and skills as a pilot with the Wounded Veterans Airlift Command and the Angel Flight Network. He was an accomplished athlete, having completed numerous triathlons.

He is survived by his wife, Kristine, and two daughters, Claire and Caroline, as well as numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by his son, A.J. Trustey.

Visiting hours will begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4 and conclude with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at Shore Country Day School in Beverly. A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. at the AJ Gordon Memorial Chapel at Gordon College in Wenham. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joe’s memory to the A.J. Trustey Epilepsy Research Fund, c/o Virginia Fuller, Brigham & Woman’s Hospital, 75 Francis Street, Boston, MA 02115.
