Gregory W. Sweeney, 57 of Hamilton, died Tuesday morning.

Gregory W. Sweeney, 57 of Hamilton, died Tuesday morning Aug. 12, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House after a courageous battle with his illness.

Born in Beverly, he was the son of Joseph and Marguerite (Caverly) Sweeney. He was raised in Hamilton and attended Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School.

He was a licensed contractor and a perfectionist in his work. Greg loved the beach at Good Harbor, vacationing in Nantucket with Jane and going out to breakfast with family as well as watching old westerns.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his sisters, Martha Pelletier and her husband Dennis of Byfield and Allyson Sweeney of Hamilton, his longtime girlfriend Jane Lafata of Gloucester, his two nieces Amy Timpano and her husband Scott of Beacon, N.Y. and Leah Pelletier of Beverly, his uncle Robert Caverly and his wife Dorothy of Mountain Grove, Mo.; several cousins and his close friend Dana Wood and his wife Sue of Claremont, N.H.; and many close friends.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Hamilton, Cemetery in Hamilton, on Rt. 1A (Bay Road). Relatives and friends are invited to attend. As requested there are no visiting hours. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly.
