Kmart Leaving North Shore With Newburyport Closing

Kmart, owned by Sears, is exiting the North Shore.

NEWBURYPORT, MA — Kmart is reportedly closing its Newburyport store. Kmart is operated by Sears and Business Insider reported the struggling retail giant is closing 72 stores, including 49 Kmart stores, 16 Sears stores and seven car centers. The Newburyport Kmart is only Massachusetts store slated for closure. After it shuts down, Kmart will have 13 remaining Massachusetts stores.

Sears, based in Illinois, has been the target of bankruptcy rumors as sales continue to decline.

Last week, a Kmart data breach was confirmed by company officials, who said customers' credit card information was stolen.
