Hingham, MA -- When people talk about why they love Linden Ponds, an Erickson Living senior living community in Hingham, Massachusetts, they often bring up the friendly neighbors, the caring staff, and special events on campus that keep residents active and engaged. But not to be overlooked is the appeal of the stylish and spacious apartment homes. One of the most popular models is the Flagstaff, a two bedroom unit with a galley kitchen that opens up into the dining area and living room.

Sales Counselors Karmin Der and Teresa Caseau say the 904-square-foot apartment is ideal for both couples and single residents.

“Most residents say they love the Flagstaff because of openness of the kitchen, and the bay window is a plus,” Der says. “The second bedroom can be used as a den or an office space or a flexible space for hobbies and crafts or a guest room.”

Dimity Thornton moved to Linden Ponds a little over two years ago. She previously lived in a condo in Concord, Mass., but felt it lacked the sense of community she wanted.

“It was difficult to be struggling in a condo where there was no community,” Dimity says. “I compared Linden Ponds with three other retirement communities and it was clearly the best value.”

Ample space for hosting meals

When she moved to Linden Ponds, Dimity did not want to part with her buffet or her dining table. She was able to comfortably fit both beloved pieces of furniture in her apartment home. With her ample dining space, she can easily host her three children and six grandchildren.

“I wanted the table because it is expandable, so I have the option that I can expand it to fit up to 12 people,” she says.

“I didn’t ever want to have to tell my family no because of the size. There’s just something about having a meal with family in the home.”

With MA still under safer-at-home orders during the coronavirus pandemic, Dimity says the Linden Ponds staff is doing a fantastic job taking care of residents, and she doesn't mind at all the extra time to relax in her apartment home.

To her own taste

Dimity selected the Flagstaff, and before she moved, she had renovations done to customize the space to her own style, which she describes as contemporary.

“One of the things I did that was valuable was to put cabinets in that go right up to the ceiling. The shelves I can’t reach are perfect for seasonal storage,” Dimity says. “I also put in a fridge with French doors with the freezer on the bottom.”

Dimity had wide plank maple flooring installed and the walls throughout most of the apartment painted pale gray, which serves as a neutral backdrop for her contemporary furniture and décor. But she did add one eye-catching pop of color.

“I love my bathroom; it’s my favorite place. I had the whole thing painted a lovely teal,” Dimity says. “I put in one of those contemporary white vanities with a towel shelf underneath. The floor is a pretty white tile with swirls of gray.”

Dimity uses her second bedroom as a combination office, TV room, and guest room.

“I am very happy with the apartment,” Dimity says. “I wanted to be in a space that pleases me, and this does.”
