A release from Friends of Lynnfield Rail Trail leadership team:

Congratulations to the Town of Lynnfield! We are now on our way to making the Rail Trail a reality for our generation, and all future generations.

A historically high turnout at the September 26th Special Town Meeting voted overwhelmingly to spend $348,000 in existing town accounts to pay Lynnfield’s share of the final design and engineering costs of the Wakefield-Lynnfield Rail Trail.

We look forward to working with all Lynnfield citizens to design and build our Rail Trail. The next step is for Wakefield and Lynnfield to sign the contract for the final design with WorldTech, the design and engineering firm.

We at the Friends of Lynnfield Rail Trail have respectfully requested that Lynnfield Town Administrator Rob Dolan and Wakefield Town Administrator Steve Maio schedule a mutual Rail Trail Stakeholder Summit to occur within the next few weeks.

Invitees should include our Town Administrators, our Legislators, representatives of the Wakefield Town Council and Lynnfield Selectmen, each Town’s DPW Directors, WorldTech, representatives from the Friends of Lynnfield Rail Trail leadership team, as well as representatives from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).

We are here to serve Lynnfield’s citizens to get our Rail Trail built on the soonest possible date. Thank you again for your tremendous support at the Special Town Meeting. The voters’ mandate to Lynnfield’s leadership is clear: Proceed with the Rail Trail without delay.
