MARLBOROUGH, MA — Ken's Foods, one of the largest makers of salad dressing in the nation, wants to expand its Marlborough headquarters and manufacturing facility, according to plans filed with the city.

Representatives from the company will appear before the Conservation Commission on Thursday over plans to add a nearly 12,000 square-foot parking area at the Ken's Foods facility along D'Angelo Drive. The parking area would enter a wetland buffer area, and so needs approval to move ahead.

The new parking lot is the first of a two-part expansion, company officials told conservation commissioners in June. The second expansion phase will involve reconfiguring the loading docks and adding onto a rear parking lot.

Ken's vice president Mark Shaye told commissioners in June that the company is expanding because "business is very good," according to meeting minutes.

Ken's began in the 1950s, paying to license the name of Ken's Steak House along Route 9 in Framingham. Today, Ken's makes 60 different salad dressings and marinades, and owns the Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce brand.
