Marlborough Medal of Liberty, Medal of Fidelity Ceremonies Planned

The medals will be given to family members of veterans who died in a ceremony before Veterans Day.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough will hold medal award ceremonies Thursday before Veterans Day, recognizing members of the military who either died while serving or due to combat-related injuries.

The city is pleased to announce a Medal of Liberty and Medal of Fidelity Ceremony will be held by the Marlborough Historical Society supported by Mayor Arthur Vigeant and Veterans Services on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Marlborough Senior Center, 40 New St.

The Medal of Liberty is awarded to the next of kin of service men and women from the Commonwealth killed in action or who died in service. The Medal of Fidelity is awarded to the next of kin of service members from the Commonwealth who died as the result of combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder or combat connected injuries, conditions or diseases while serving.

This year’s ceremony will honor World War II and Vietnam service members who were killed in action and those who lost their lives due to their service. Families in attendance will accept the awards on their behalf.

“The city is honored to award the families of Marlborough World War II and Vietnam service members with the Medal of Liberty and Fidelity. We remember these service members and all who have lost their lives. It is important that we recognize and honor them for their sacrifice,” stated Mayor Arthur Vigeant.

“Please join us and the Marlborough Historical Society in remembering the men from Marlborough who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” stated Marlborough Historical Society Trustee Matthew Sargent.
