Popular North Shore Sub Shop Closing After 60+ Years

People have been getting their fix at this Saugus location since the 1950s.

SAUGUS, MA — A beloved sub shop in Saugus is closing next month. Santoro's Sub-Villa on Essex Street, which first opened in 1954, will sell its last sub when the owners retire and call it quits Feb. 3, according to a sign out front.

There is no word on what may be replacing Santoro's.

Santoro's is at 259 Essex St., but it's pretty much on Route 1 South. It's across from near when the new Kane's Donuts will open with a drive-thru this month.
