Last Of The Fuddruckers: MA Location Closing, Only 2 Left

MELROSE, MA — The Fuddruckers restaurant in Saugus, which has been in business for more than 35 years, will close its doors for good at the end of the year, the restaurant chain announced Wednesday.

The Saugus location of the restaurant, whose claim to fame is that it serves the World's Greatest Hamburgers, said that it fought to stay open through multiple attempts to negotiate its lease with its landlord before eventually being "forced to make this very difficult decision."

The closures leaves just one Fuddruckers restaurant open in Massachusetts.

As a result, the location expects to close in mid to late December, asking its "incredibly loyal guests" to stop by before them.

Adrienne LeBlanc, owner of the Saugus franchise who has been with the restaurant for 23 years, said she brings the news with a "heavy heart."

"This is not the outcome we had hoped for because we want to keep the restaurant open," she added.

Meanwhile, the restaurant's Reading location, which is about a 15-minute drive from the Saugus location, "isn't going anywhere," its owner Haley Benitez said.

"We look forward to welcoming guests who normally dine at the Saugus restaurant, and we are excited that many of the employees from Saugus will be joining us in Reading so there will be many familiar faces when those guests come in," Benitez added.

Fuddruckers in Reading will continue to book fundraisers and offer catering for events of all sizes, the restaurant chain said.

Known for its burgers and milkshakes, Fuddruckers' menu also boasts salads, chicken and chicken sandwiches, and hot dogs.
