MELROSE, MA — Most of the power outages from Sunday evening's violent thunderstorm have been resolved, but some are expected to last into the morning.

"National Grid has informed me that some residents will not get their power turned back on until morning," Mayor Paul Brodeur tweeted after 9 p.m. "National Grid crews will be working through the night along side Melrose DPW, Police, and Fire. All are working as quickly as possible."

As of 9:30, 1,425 households in the city were without power — some 11 percent of the National Grid customer base here. It was a big improvement from just five hours earlier, when nearly half of the city was without power.
