How To Beat Melrose Heatwave

The pool and library will be open as temperatures soar to almost 100 degrees this week.

MELROSE, MA — It's absolutely sweltering out there, and it will be for at least a few more days.

The summer's second heatwave is in full effect, with temperatures reaching into the mid-to-high 90s for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The National Weather Service has a heat advisory in effect until Wednesday evening.

The city is encouraging people to take advantage of the Lloyd Memorial Swimming Pool (open from 11:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.) and the Melrose Public Library (open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.) during the heatwave to find some relief.

Melrose also offers the following tips:

  • Never leave children or pets alone in a closed vehicle, even with the windows cracked.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Eat balanced, light, regular meals.
  • Limit time in the sun, and always use sun protection.
  • Avoid strenuous activity.
  • Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
  • Be a good neighbor. Check on family, friends, and neighbors, especially the elderly, those who live alone, those with medical conditions, those who may need additional assistance, and those who may not have air conditioning.
  • Recognize the signs of heat-related illness.
