MELROSE, MA—Melrose residents live in homes both big and small, but how many residents rent homes as opposed to owning them?
According to data from the American Community Survey, 32.8 percent of residents rent homes in Melrose. This figure is slightly lower than the percentage in Middlesex County (37.5 percent), the Greater Boston Metro area (38.5 percent) and the Commonwealth as a whole (37.7 percent).
Residents are paying less rent then their counterparts across the area. 26.8 percent of residents are paying over $1,500 per month in monthly rent, a figure more than eleven percentage points lower than the county total of 38 percent and more than five percent less than the Greater Boston Area total of 32.1 percent.
