Man Arrested, Charged In Melrose Double Shooting: Police

Police said they arrested a 44-year-old Melrose man on Monday in Saugus following the shooting on Sunday.

MELROSE, MA — A Melrose man was arrested on Monday in connection with a shooting in Melrose that sent two people to the hospital on Sunday night, police announced.

Christopher Corcoran, 44, is now facing charges including two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault and battery with a firearm and possession of a firearm without a license, according to police.

Police said they arrested Corcoran around 2:20 p.m. in Saugus on Monday after a multi-agency investigation involving Melrose Police, State Police and the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.

Police responded on Sunday night around 7:30 p.m. following a report of a shooting on Waverly Place in Melrose's Wyoming neighborhood.

Officers on scene soon found two victims with gunshot wounds to the legs, according to police. Emergency crews later took those victims to area hospitals on Sunday night, though the severity of their injuries remained initially unknown, police said.

Law enforcement personnel remained on scene in Melrose overnight following this shooting. Their investigation, police said on Monday, soon identified Corcoran as an "alleged suspect."

The shooting, police said, followed a "verbal altercation" between parties involved.

The arrest of Corcoran, police continued, went down without incident on Monday.

Corcoran is now expected to be arraigned in Malden District Court on Tuesday, according to police.
