MELROSE, MA – Teen artists can now participate in a one-year fellowship to develop their artistic voice and vision, Follow Your Art Community Studios (FYACS) announced in a news release.

Six high school juniors and seniors in Melrose, Malden, Medford, Revere, Saugus, Stoneham, Wakefield, and other nearby communities can partake in the Emerging Artist Fellowship for Youth, which runs from May 2023 to May 2024.

"Since establishing the Emerging Artist Fellowship in 2019, the Foundation Trust has been honored to partner with FYACS to advance the early-stage professional development of Greater Boston artists," Dr. Joseph Spinazzola, Executive Director of the Foundation Trust, said in the news release.

"This year, instead of selecting a fourth adult recipient of this fellowship, we are thrilled to extend this opportunity to a diverse cadre of talented high school students from Melrose, Malden, and surrounding communities," he added.

Participants will be given individual artistic support – such as studio time, individual and group critiques, and working with the greater community to produce individual portfolios and a group exhibition – needed for advanced education or employment in the arts.

“This fellowship is a golden opportunity for young artists to work with mentors to hone and refine their creative voice and use that voice to connect with the community," Executive Director of FYACS Kris Rodolico said in the news release. "We are so excited for this program to launch!"

Applications are due by April 14 and acceptance decisions will be announced May 1.

The first fellowship meeting will take place the week of May 22.

The fellowship is part of Create Your Opportunity, a YouthReach grant program of the Mass Cultural Council that provides mentorship, employment, and community engagement for high school youth.
