Melrose Dog Owners: Renew Your Dog’s License by March 15

All dogs who reside in Melrose must be licensed and receive a rabies vaccination, according to Mass General Laws and Melrose City Ordinances

The license fee is $20 for spayed/neutered dogs and $23 for intact dogs if renewed by March 15.

MELROSE, MA – The Melrose Clerk’s Office has reminded community members to purchase your dog’s license before March 15.

Dog licenses help the City return your pet to you quickly if they are lost, ensure that all dogs are vaccinated against rabies, and are required by state law. All dogs over the age of 6 months in the city of Melrose need to be licensed annually.

The license fee is $20 for spayed/neutered dogs and $23 for intact dogs if renewed by March 15. After the deadline, fees increase by $15, to $35 and $38. Dog licenses remain valid for the calendar year.

Owners can renew dog licenses:

  • In person at the City Clerk’s Office on the first floor of Melrose City Hall at 562 Main Street;
  • Online;
  • Or by mail to 562 Main St, Attn. City Clerk’s office.

  • A copy of your dog’s current rabies certificate;
  • The completed renewal form/dog license application, which was mailed with your yearly census form; and
  • Payment ($20 for spayed/neutered dogs or $23 for intact dogs) made out to the City of Melrose.
