Melrose Football To Host Wakefield In Thanksgiving Game

Melrose will host the game on Thursday as Melrose and Wakefield teams continue their historic rivalry.

MELROSE, MA — The Melrose High School football team will look to end its season on a high note Thursday as it continues its Thanksgiving rivalry with Wakefield into another year.

Melrose, which went 6-2 in the regular season, will host the game at Fred Green Field in Melrose. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:15 a.m.

Melrose’s record landed it in 13th place in MIAA Division 4 Power Rankings this fall. The team secured a playoff spot before losing in the first round of this year’s playoff bracket to Holliston.

Wakefield remains undefeated after an 8-0 regular season and a dominant postseason run. The team ranked sixth in Division III. It is now gearing up for a shot at a state title in the Division III Super Bowl against Milton on Dec. 3.

The Melrose/Wakefield football rivalry dates back well over 100 years. Melrose leads the all-time series, according to the Friends of Melrose Football.

Wakefield recently snapped an 11-game losing streak last fall, though, nabbing its first win over Melrose since an overtime victory in 2013.

Tickets for this year's Melrose/Wakefield game are available for presale at Melrose High School, the Melrose Mayor's Office or at Grays Appliance in Melrose. Tickets sold via presale are $5 for students and $7 for adults. Tickets will cost $10 at the gate.
