MELROSE, MA – MelroseWakefield Hospital was one of 17 across Massachusetts to earn a "C" grade for patient safety, according to the healthcare nonprofit The Leapfrog Group in its national grading released this week.

The grades are based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.

“MelroseWakefield Hospital takes great pride in providing safe, high-quality care to the community – it will always be our highest priority, and is reflected in a number of recent accolades for clinical excellence,” MelroseWakefield spokesperson Will Courtney said in a written statement. “While it is disappointing that our delivery of excellent patient care is not reflected in the Leapfrog grade, we are continuously looking for ways to improve and enhance quality and patient safety.”
