Melrose Mets Little League Champions!

MELROSE, MA —The Melrose Mets are your 2018 Minor Division champions! The Little League baseball team won, 6-3, Saturday at Lewis Monk Field to secure the championship.

Evan Fox, all of 9 years old, will head into fourth grade at the Winthrop School as the Big Man On Campus. He hit a tie-breaking grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning, reports one proud parent. You can see Evan clutching the President's Cup below.

Here is an excerpt of Coach Mike Fix's note to families after the win:

"Thank you! Thank you for getting your boys to the A's in Woburn this past winter. Thank you for sticking with us through a 4 and 10 season. Practicing all over town and realigning your work schedules and personal time with the rainouts. Thank you for the continued commitment and whatever you said at breakfast and dinner tables to keep the faith. This words of encouragement resonated with your sons and put the pressure on the coaches to continue practicing, because it was all practice for today.

Thank you to my coaches - Eric Giuliano, Matt Dormer, Joe Dillon, and a great friend and now three-time City Champ, Mike Zimmerman. Chalking, raking the infield, shoveling clay to the mounds and box, pitching, fielding drills, dugout duty, pitch counts, base coaches, cleanup - the list goes on. Today wouldn't have been possible without your dedication.

Our journey culminated today with everything the boys worked so hard for - a championship. Not a win, but a big CHAMPIONSHIP. We proved that we are the best team in the Minors. 7th seed, 4 and 10 season, BEST PLAYERS and UNIT for their age in the City of Melrose. Congratulations!!!
