MELROSE, MA — With the end of the year comes expirations for Melrose overnight parking permits, officials noted last week.

New passes are available, though, for Melrose residents looking to utilize overnight on-street parking options moving forward.

Current 2022 permits will expire on Dec. 31.

Residents will need a new permit after the end of the month in order to park overnight either on the street or in select Melrose municipal parking lots and MBTA Commuter Rail lots.

Police may ticket anyone parked overnight in these areas without a permit, as noted in the city’s reminder last Tuesday.

Anyone needing a permit can buy one for $80-per year at the Melrose City Parking Clerk or Collector’s office at City Hall during normal business hours.

Anyone who can’t get to City Hall can contract the Parking Clerk by email at [email protected] or by phone at (781) 979–4144.

Residents seeking a permit will need to bring a copy of their current vehicle registration and proof of Melrose residency, such as a utility bill, a copy of a lease, or a mortgage statement.

On street parking is banned during a declared snow emergency.

Officials last week directed anyone with questions about snow emergency parking regulations to reach out to the Melrose Police Department.
