MELROSE, MA — Melrose community members with leftover pumpkins after Halloween will have a chance to get rid of them for free this weekend at a city-run composting event.

The event is set for Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Public Works City Yard. Community members can bring their pumpkins to the city yard to avoid placing them in their trash.

While the city is collecting pumpkins for composting, it cannot accept any pumpkins that have paint, glitter, hairspray or petroleum jelly on them, as noted in a recent event announcement.
