MELROSE, MA — Melrose’s annual Porchfest music festival will return later this month for a fourth year of music and celebration in local neighborhoods.

The event is set for Saturday, Sept. 24 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Porchfest will see hosts provide a venue for a variety of bands, solo performers, spoken word artists and comedians both from Melrose and from other communities.

Dubbed “Porchfest,” the event will see actual performance spaces range from porches, to driveways to front yards.

This month’s Porchfest will mark the fourth running of the festival, which launched in 2018. The festival was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19 before returning in triumphant fashion last year.

The program has nearly doubled in size since its founding, according to event organizers, with close to 90 performers participating last year.

“Melrose Porchfest has proven to be an overwhelmingly positive event that brings the community together across every neighborhood,” Mayor Paul Brodeur said in an event announcement prepared by Porchfest organizers.

“Communities benefit from bonding experiences like this,” he added, “perhaps now more than ever.”

Porchfest runs as a city-wide celebration. Performances are free to all, with organizers inviting attendees from outside of Melrose to visit and enjoy the day’s shows.
