MELROSE, MA — The Melrose Public Library is reminding patrons about three upcoming events this week.

From 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, the library will host its monthly Teen and Tween Advisory Group, which is open to students ages 11 to 18. The discussion will take place at the playground at Beebe School. The Beebe School building, at 263 W. Foster St., is the library's temporary home while the West Emerson location undergoes renovation.

During the advisory group event, for which registration is required, students will get to have their say about what events the library should host for teens and what books the library should add to its collection. Students also can get information about volunteer hours at the library.

Later on Wednesday, the library is hosting its History Book Group for adults. The off-site event is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at the Milano Center, located at 201 W. Foster St. Registration is available online. For people unable to attend in person, the library is offering remote access via Zoom.

Wednesday's topic is Great Escapes. Attendees are asked to choose a nonfiction book or article that examines the historic aspect of an escape, which could include any situation in which one is fleeing from the confines of being held against their will.

"Escapes from concentration or POW camps, daring escapes from Alcatraz or other well (or not so well) plotted out prison escapes (all qualify)," the library said in a statement. "Feel free to think outside the box if you would like to explore escapes by historic figures or heroic escapes through the Underground Railroad. History is full of those escaping!"

The library has listed several books that are relevant to the discussion.

On Sunday, the Library will be hosting the Friends of Melrose Public Library Book Sale.

The event is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Beebe School lawn.

According to officials, most books will be priced between 50 cents and $2 and all proceeds will benefit the Melrose Public Library.
