Melrose Public Schools Seeking Interim Superintendent of Schools

MELROSE, MA – Melrose Public Schools is currently seeking an interim superintendent for the 2023-2024 school year, officials announced Wednesday.

Three superintendent finalists were announced March 15, and on March 23, the Committee voted to appoint Billerica superintendent Tim Piwowar as the pending superintendent of Melrose schools.

Piwowar later withdrew from the process on March 27, and is set to join Westwood schools as their next superintendent, according to The Lowell Sun.

Melrose School Committee members voted on March 28 to approve a process to post a new job description and to allow Chair Margaret Driscoll to appoint a subcommittee of three School Committee members as an initial screening committee. The group will review application materials and put forth candidates to be interviewed by Committee members in public sessions, according to a news release.

Committee officials said in the news release the interim position will be posted on or around March 29, with a deadline to submit applications by April 13. The screening committee will review and announce finalist selections on or around April 19, and hopes to interview candidates on April 26 and 27.
