MELROSE, MA — Melrose Youth Soccer's City League is in “desperate need” of coaches, the organization said on social media late last week.

Shorthanded as of last week, the organization noted that its season can only run with the support of a wide volunteer base.

“It’s a wonderful way to get to know your child’s friends, help out your community and spread a love of soccer,” Melrose Youth Soccer said of the coaching positions.

First grade through sixth grade programs have one night of practice during the week and games on Saturdays beginning on Sept. 5. Those programs also run for eight weeks.

City League teams are not scheduled to play on the weekend of Indigenous Peoples' Day, meaning they'll wrap up their season on Nov. 5.

Anyone interested in joining the coaching ranks should email [email protected] as soon as possible.

While registration to play in the current season of Melrose Youth Soccer games has closed, a wait-list will remain open until Wednesday.

Melrose Youth Soccer offers both City League and travel programs, with city teams playing each other in local games while travel teams face off against opponents in the regional Middlesex Travel League. City teams are coed programs.

Coaches are required to fill out a CORI form and complete a free head injury awareness and prevention course.
