A mischievous band of monkeys, a sky-high stack of caps, and a peddler who takes all this monkey business in stride! Boston Children’s Theatre (BCT) is proud to produce the World Premiere musical CAPS FOR SALE. Based on the popular classic children’s book by Esphyr Slobodkina and featuring 17-year old Michael Saracco of Melrose, CAPS FOR SALE will be performed March 5 – 13, 2016 at the Calderwood Pavilion, Boston, MA.

Cast as ‘Juggler,’ Michael was last seen in Assassins in BCT’ Summer Studios 4 production. He has also appeared in BCT’s production of Fame. A talented singer, Michael recently sang at Carnegie Hall as part of the High School Honors Performance Series. Michael is a junior at Austin Prep.

“I’ve loved the story of Caps for Sale since I was a child, and as the world celebrates the 75th anniversary of this beloved book, we are thrilled to bring this timeless classic to life on stage as part of our Marcia J. Trimble New Works Program,” said Clark. “When we received the script and score from playwrights Paul Lewis and Gabriel Carbajal, I jumped at the chance to bring this delightful tale to our audiences. It has been a wonderfully creative collaborative process and we are proud that Caps For Sale continues BCT’s mission of producing new works that will have a lasting impact on audiences for generations to come.”

Based on a popular folktale, CAPS FOR SALE follows the life of a caps salesman who balances his entire inventory of caps on his head! When his caps are stolen by a band of mischievous monkeys, the caps salesman must outwit the monkeys in order to reclaim his caps and place them back in their rightful place- on his head. Filled with warmth, humor and sincerity, CAPS FOR SALE will delight audiences young and old.

“Having read this book to my own children, I was thrilled to have this opportunity to work with co-writer Gabriel Carbajal and Boston Children’s Theatre to adapt this wonderful story into a musical,” revealed playwright and composer Paul Lewis. “We spent a great deal of time examining the book’s protagonist and his world, and imagining an expanded narrative arc which would incorporate themes that all of us can relate to — overcoming obstacles and following our dreams. It has been a tremendous and exciting journey to be working with BCT to bring Caps for Sale to the stage.”
