Obituary: Edmund F. Wright, Director of Personnel for Melrose and Member of the Elections Committee

Served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany in the Counter Intelligence Corps.

Edmund F. Wright, 87, of North Andover and formerly of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2014.

Edmund was born in Melrose to the late Spencer and Mary (Murphy) Wright. Edmund attended St. Mary’s grammar school in Melrose, Malden Catholic High School in Malden, and was a graduate of Boston College, Class of 1949. He served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany in the Counter Intelligence Corps. Mr. Wright taught at Worcester State College and Mass Bay Community College in the early 60s, worked as a Human Resource Training Officer for the Federal Government for over 20 years and also worked as the Director of Personnel for the City of Melrose. He was a member of the election committee for the City of Melrose.

During his spare time, Edmund loved to read and write and was avid with politics and government. Mr. Wright served as the volunteer coordinator for Senator Ted Kennedy’s initial Senate campaign in 1962. He was a very active parishioner at St. Michael Parish, North Andover, St. Mary’s Church, Melrose, and St. Augustine Parish, Andover; however, his greatest passion was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Edmund was the beloved husband of the late Helen E. (Nee) Wright and is survived by his children Julie A. McLaughlin and her husband Daniel of Andover and Gerry Wright and his wife Pam of Andover, his daughter-in-law Janet of Andover, his grandchildren Catherine and Dan McLaughlin, Spencer and Thomas Wright and Adam, Sarah and Allison Wright. Mr. Wright was predeceased by his son Edmund F. Wright, Jr.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his funeral mass on Monday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Church, North Andover. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1-5 in the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third St., North Andover.
