Red Hatters for June 2024

by ShirleyRabb

Well it was June and Baseball.

On June 6th. four Red Hatters joined other Melrosians as we boarded two buses that left the Senior Center at 10am heading for Worcester to see the Woo Sox play the Rochester Red Wings.

A little drizzle on the way but no problems as we talked and laughed and got set to root for the Sox.

Our seats were in Section 7 on the third base side; our seats #1,2,3 and 4, in row 16. Good seats with a great view of hope plate and the entire field.

There was a game delay to get the field cleaned up from the early

morning rain; and the 12:15 original start time got under way at 12:45.

The game was exciting to begin with as both teams scored in the early innings.

The Woo Sox mascots moved around the perimeter of the field jumping and dancing to entertain between innings.

A little rain brought out umbrellas for a bit but no disruption during the game as the Woo Sox went on to win by the score of 13 to 4.

We had to wait while our drivers went to ret4rieve the buses and our trip back was a bit longer than expected. Rain and heavy traffic got us back to Melrose at 6pm.

A long day but it is June and it was baseball.

June 23 took some of the group to the Reagle Music Theater in Waltham to see the wonderful play South Pacific.

The cast was outstanding; voices that echoed through the hall and dancing that was fun and fancy.

You've got to have a dream, Bali Hi, I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair, Some enchanted evening, and so many more. It was really great!

Our dinner was at Longhorn's in Reading. This is always a good place for a good meal. Nice young man to wait on us who attended to all our needs, with pleasant surroundings and happy people just enjoying a day out.

On June 26th we did what we do when no big Red Hat functions are keeping us busy. Five of us went incognito, just like everyone in the restaurant. (That meant no Red Hats).

One of our members was not available for Cinco d May0 so we decided to make it up to her by heading for Tequila's in Wakefield. It was a fun afternoon with great food and catch up conversations. Just friends doing what everyone else does when they want a little extra time with friends.

On June 27th it was off to the Senior Center in Newton. Again Sheryl Faye was on our list. This trip she transformed herself into Laura Ingalls Wilder, the author of Little House on the Prairie.

Our month ended on a great note as we agreed it was another very good month for the Red Hatters.
