MELROSE, MA – Swatting calls made to the Melrose Police Department this morning claiming a tragedy had happened at Melrose High School have been determined not to be credible and appear to be part of a larger pattern of swatting hoaxes across the state, Melrose superintendent Julie Kukenberger announced in an email to family and staff.

School resource officers are on site at Melrose High School and responded alongside the Melrose Police Department and school administrators to determine the threat was not credible and that students were safe, Kukenberger wrote in the email.

Per protocol, the Melrose Police Department reported the call to the Commonwealth Fusion Center and the Boston Regional Intelligence Center, Kukenberger said.

“The Melrose Police Department takes these threats very seriously,” Melrose Police Department Chief Kevin Faller told Kukenberger.

“Once we received the threat we responded in collaboration with the school department to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We will continue to investigate this matter to determine the source while providing additional police presence on the secondary campus throughout the day,” Faller said.
