Large Hazmat Response After Fire, Chemical Spill At Polymer Lab In Franklin

FRANKLIN, MA — Hazmat technicians from across the region responded to a Franklin manufacturing facility Tuesday morning after a reported spill of a substance called pyrophoric liquid metal, the town's fire department reported.

Franklin firefighters responded to the Dynisco facility along Forge Parkway just before 9 a.m. Firefighters found a "vapor condition" in one part of the building, forcing an evacuation of the building.

The small pyrophoric liquid metal spill triggered a tier 3 hazmat response, calling about 45 hazmat technicians to the scene, the fire department said in a news release.

Around 12:30 p.m., technicians were entering the Dynisco facility to clean up the spill. Franklin Fire Chief James McLaughlin said there's no threat to the public from the spill.
