2 Killed After Car Slams Into Needham Home

Two women from Needham were killed after a car slammed into a home on Central Avenue.

NEEDHAM, MA — Two people were killed after a car crashed into a home in Needham Wednesday morning.

According to police, the driver, an 89-year-old Needham man, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 2 passengers, one 86, one 89, and both from Needham were transported with life-threatening injuries but did not survive the crash.

One of the women, Dr. Claire Van Ummersen was the first female chancellor of USNH who served for 6 years from 1986 to 1992.

Emergency crews were on the scene at Central Avenue at approximately 10:20 a.m.

No other injuries were reported.

The Needham Police, the Norfolk District Attorney's Office, and the Massachusetts State Police Reconstruction Team are actively investigating this crash.

Needham police say no charges are in place at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Traffic on Central Avenue between Forest Street and Nehoiden Street is still being detoured away from the area.
